Well it WAS my party last night and boy what a great night it was. The only thing that would have made it more perfect is if my family and friends from South Africa could have been there too. But it was exactly how I wanted my 30th birthday to be.
I decided to have a real South African Braai / BBQ. I paid a visit to the South Africa shop last week and bought all my supplies and then on the day my sister and I got everything prepared to perfection! I even managed to rope my cousin in to do the actual Braaing/BBQing. He is also an ex South African so it was a genuine braai!!!
I was very lucky to have Ails (all the way from Bendigo), Brooke, Linda and Phil there. Thanks guys for being there and making my party that much more special. I even got them all to taste some "boereworse" (South African Sausage) and Millie Pap (Mashed corn stuff). I think they enjoyed themselves.
My sister made my cake. I must admit, it was a little odd seeing my face on a cake but it tasted divine!!!!
Having my sister here this weekend was awesome! She arrived on Thursday night, after missing her flight.. So we went for a very late dinner in China Town. We still managed to polish off a bottle of champagne though!
Then on Friday morning we set off on a full day shopping adventure! The only trouble is that neither of us were in the right frame of mind to shop - me stressing over my party and my sister stressing over work :) BUT we still had a good day and even managed to buy something in the last hour!
I don't know how I am going to survive winter! I have no winter clothes and I am not having any luck at all in finding any. What is with the fashions this year???
After waking up bright and early to the site of about 8 hot air balloons going past my window on Saturday morning, we tried the shopping thing again. My sister was very successful but alas, I didn't find a thing. The rest of Saturday was spent doing party prep stuff and then Saturday night was the big event.
My sister left this morning to head back to Sydney and I went to finish cleaning up at my cousins place. I hate cleaning up after a party!
So I am now feeling very tired after such a busy weekend but I am happy.
Tomorrow I will turn the big 30 and I am ready to enter into a new phase of my life :) eeeeeek
Its great having a milestone to use as an excuse to get back into eating and living healthily. I haven't been that bad but I haven't been 100% good either. After the evil shopping experience this weekend and not being able to find ANYTHING that looked and felt good, I know that I have a hell of a lot of work to do. I also have to fix up all the hard work that I managed to undo over the past few months. I want to feel happy in my body again and I will! :)
I hope you all had a great weekend too!
